Senator EGGLESTON
—I give notice that, on Wednesday, 6 November, 1996, I shall move:
That the Senate—
(a) congratulates the town of Port Hedland, Western Australia, on reaching the centenary of its gazettal as a town site on 22 October 1896;
(b) recognises the great contribution Port Hedland has made over the past 100 years as a centre for the development of the eastern Pilbara; and
(c) expresses its appreciation of the fact that modern day Port Hedland is an example of successful multiculturalism, noting that there are some 62 different nationalities represented in the town's population, encompassing people from every continent on the globe and a large aboriginal population all harmoniously contributing to the spirit of the community of Port Hedland.
