Senator MARGETTS(5.23 p.m.) —The Greens oppose the changes in the bill to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission's power to appoint industry panels. This change is part and parcel of the changes elsewhere in this bill with respect to the overriding power of state jurisdictions and the abolition of the bargaining division of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

Honourable senators may note that Greens amendment No. 2 is precisely the same as the ALP's amendment No. 2. Therefore, we will be supporting their amendment because it is the same as ours. But in terms of the Democrat-government amendment, it is slightly better than that which existed before. It is of no great consequence, and I see no point in opposing it, but, by the same token, I will be voting to delete the entire schedule. Therefore, it is simply a tiny change rather than the change that should be occurring.

Amendment agreed to.

The CHAIRMAN —I understand that I have to indicate that we are now attending to schedule 2.
