Senator CAMPBELL (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Environment and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Sport, Territories and Local Government)(3.32 p.m.) —It is good to see that the opposition supports John Howard's policy on industrial relations as stated in the quote, Senator Sherry. As Senator Sherry well knows—and there is thunderous agreement in most respects on this clause; that is why it is interesting that it has taken in excess of five hours to get to this stage—almost all of the terms of your proposed amendment to the objects section are in line with ours with just a couple of exceptions.

As I said earlier, I have answered the question about better pay. We have indicated in the objects the words `improved living standards'. That is a more thorough measure of the object of increasing living standards for Australians across the nation than something as described by yourselves in your amendment as `better pay'.

The CHAIRMAN —I might indicate to the chamber that it is best to refer to the Prime Minister as Mr Howard rather than John Howard.
