Senator STOTT DESPOJA —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate notes that:

(a)   a recent Saulwick poll identifies education as an issue of major concern in the electorate of Lindsay and, of those surveyed:

   (i)   69 per cent believe that the differential Higher Education Contribution Scheme changes are unfair,

(ii)   68 per cent believe that universities should not be allowed to charge full fees to create additional undergraduate places,

(iii)   68 per cent disagreed with the Government's reduction in university operating grants, and

(iv)   74 per cent believe that reduced university operating grants would severely reduce opportunities for people in western Sydney; and

(b)   these responses reflect the community's widespread disillusionment with the Government's broken promises on higher education.
