Senator BROWN
—I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:
That the Senate—
(a) endorses letters from the Speaker of the Tasmanian State House of Assembly and from the Leader of the Parliamentary Greens in Tasmania, Christine Milne, asking United States President Clinton to call off the impending incursion into Hobart harbour by the nuclear powered and armed warship, USS Carl Vinson ;
(b) calls on the Prime Minister (Mr Howard) to consult President Clinton to seek his support for this exercise of State's rights; and
(c) instructs the President of the Senate to inform the United Stated President that, while his impending visit to Australia is welcome, the visit of the nuclear warship is not.
