Senator O'CHEE(10.33 a.m.) —I do not intend to delay the Senate any longer. The Senate has been delayed with a mindless and meaningless contribution from the other side. I just point out that there are many honourable senators on the other side of the chamber who joined their party because they opposed conscription. We on this side of the chamber oppose the conscription of the young people into student unions, which do not necessarily represent their views.

We also oppose the pilfering and rorting of money and the use of that money by some student activists in these student union organisations. That is what we are doing. It is not an attempt to stifle democracy, but it is an attempt to ensure that people who do not have a lot of money because they are students do not have their money wasted and compulsorily taken off them by student unions.
