Senator WOODLEY(4.41 p.m.) —in reply—I need to reply to some of the things that were said in this urgency debate. I may not get through all of this because an awful lot of waffle was spoken in defence of this government's budget cuts, but I am afraid that did not convince me.

One of the things Senator Boswell said is that farmers want to be independent. Of course they do. I would remind him that it was a National Party minister who called them beggars, not me. But, of course, the problem is there will not even be any independent or mendicant farmers left in the bush if this government continues the way it is going.

Senator Boswell asked: who stuffed Austudy? I suppose he is referring to the disallowance motion which was passed a couple of weeks ago. My question to him is: who fixed it up? My office worked for a week to find an answer to the problem. It found that answer, and it was an answer that did not put one group of students against another group. (Time expired)

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT —Order! The time for the debate has expired.

Question put:

That the motion (Senator Woodley's ) be agreed to.
