Senator HILL (Minister for the Environment)(6.23 p.m.) —by leave—The request is a reasonable request and I think there should clearly be discussions in five minutes when we get up for dinner, but I make the point that we are not encouraging more speakers. If some of our would-be speakers have, on reflection, decided that their contribution is unnecessary, that is something that I would welcome. What would be wrong is if they then had the opportunity to revisit the debate later on. I suggest that the whips sort that out at half past six—it is only a few minutes away. We are not trying to be difficult; we are trying to be cooperative.

Sitting suspended from 6.25 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.
