Motion (by Senator Spindler)—agreed to:

That the Senate notes that:

(a)   there are a small number of Vietnamese asylum seekers in Comprehensive Plan of Action camps in South East Asia who have immediate families in Australia;

(b)   efforts should be made to have their applications expedited before their return to Vietnam;

(c)   the Australian Government should work closely with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the governments of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and the Philippines to ensure all family reunion cases are expedited; and

(d)   where applicants are returned to Vietnam applications for family reunion should be given priority.
