Senator BOURNE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That the Senate reaffirms the findings of the 1995 Select Committee Inquiry into ABC Management and Operations, chaired by Senator Alston, specifically that:

(a)   the basic structure of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is sound and the organisation is considerably stronger and more relevant to the Australian community now than it was 10 years ago;

(b)   the ABC has the ability to overcome the problems which it has identified and is strongly placed to meet the challenges ahead;

(c)   the committee supports the maintenance of ABC funding at least at its current level and the continuation of the triennial funding arrangements; and

(d)   the continued exemption from the efficiency dividend helps provide greater planning certainty for the ABC's capital works program and is therefore supported by the committee.
