Senator MARGETTS(6.20 p.m.) —I was wondering—I may have missed that part of the presentation—whether the minister said that such things as coal-fired, privately owned power stations would be eligible for these grants.

Senator Gibson —Yes, they would be, I understand.

Senator MARGETTS —I thank the minister. I believe that came out in the One Nation statement in 1992 when the grants were originally proposed. I mention that because I asked Mr Beazley those questions about this issue in the run-up to the election. He said he did not know anything about these grants. So, first, I take it that they were the ones announced in 1992 and, second, privately owned, coal-fired power stations like Collie, in Western Australia, would still be eligible to apply for these grants.

Senator Gibson —They would have had to apply in that 12-month period—the window of opportunity—the calendar year 1992. Is that clear?

Senator MARGETTS —Yes.
