Senator MICHAEL BAUME(4.27 p.m.) —Very briefly, I want to say that I welcome the sudden change in the Labor Party's view that the Senate is no longer `unrepresentative swill', as expressed by Mr Keating when he was in government, and that it is now something worth fighting for. I wish, when the previous government was in power, we had heard the sentiments we are hearing now from the Labor Party.

The ACTING DEPUTY PRESIDENT (Senator Colston) —Senator Baume, the half hour for this debate has concluded.

Senator MICHAEL BAUME —I seek leave to continue my remarks later.

Leave granted; debate adjourned.
