Senator BROWNHILL (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Trade and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy) —I did not have the pleasure of knowing Tom Tehan but, as is evident from the remarks already made, he was certainly well known and well regarded by many members of the National Party. However, Tom was clearly a man of my own heart in so far as he did not abandon his local community when he became a senator for Victoria. He remained a local and was always available to his local constituents. I know he took an active part in local issues affecting the Tatura and Kyabram region. He worked closely with Bruce Lloyd, who at the time was the member for Murray and in whose electorate those two areas fell.

A member of my staff Sue White, who worked for Bruce Lloyd during the period Tom was a National Party senator, remembers him well as a kind and thoughtful man of good humour, someone always willing to assist the people who came to him for help. To his family, I extend my sympathies.
