Senator TAMBLING —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

    (a)notes the tabling of the Industry Commission report into public housing;

    (b)acknowledges that the Industry Commission states that the full costs of housing assistance are not well recorded and governments do not know whether assistance is well targeted or delivered efficiently;

    (c)recognises earlier comments made by the Auditor-General, who found that `there remains scope for further enhancements [to the Commonwealth-State Housing Agreement] and the manner in which it is administered';

    (d)notes there needs to be greater clarity in the objectives and responsibilities in delivery of public housing between the Commonwealth and the State and Territory governments; and

    (e)urges the Federal Labor Government to address the concerns raised by the Industry Commission and the Auditor-General on transparent funding and institutional arrangements of the Commonwealth-State Housing Agreement immediately.
