Senator FAULKNER (Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (5.48 p.m.) —I move:

That the order of the Senate agreed to on 18 December 1993 be varied to provide that—

(a)the sitting of the Senate be suspended from 6.30 p.m. till 8.00 p.m. this day, and

(b)on Tuesday, 21 December 1993, the sitting of the Senate be suspended from 6.30 p.m. till 8.00 p.m.

I discussed with the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Alston) and the opposition whip, the change in the dinner patterns for tonight and tomorrow night from an hour, from 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m., to an hour and a half, from 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. This will enable those honourable senators who would like to leave the environs of Parliament House to do so. Senator Harradine indicated that he was keen for me to ensure, within arrangements amongst whips, that we do not have any divisions between 6.20 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. tonight because he will be inconvenienced at that time. I am sure all honourable senators will be able to ensure that we can accommodate Senator Harradine's wishes. I commend the motion to the Senate.
