Senator ALSTON (Deputy Leader of the Opposition) —I seek leave to pursue the matter in relation to the opinion. I was out of the chamber and it has been brought to my attention. I do not wish to go on at any great length about it but it is a matter of importance on which we ought to be clear.


Senator Gareth Evans —What would you like to do?


Senator ALSTON —I seek leave to make a brief statement and ask Senator Evans a question in that area.

Senator ALSTON —I understand that the minister has indicated that there is constitutional advice available in relation to clause 11 but he does not wish to make that available at this stage because of the possibility of litigation.
