Senator PANIZZA (11.05 p.m.) —I support Senator Alston's motion to defer this clause. The more we discuss it, the more that things come up, and I think there are better ways of doing this. Senator Alston mentioned the situation of joint tenancy as opposed to tenants-in-common and body corporate. I can see good reasons for maintaining joint tenancy. The idea of joint tenancy was set up so that property could pass between spouses or between unrelated people without being caught up in death duties. Senator Evans said that he was drafting an amendment, which we might see tomorrow, going to the matter of individual ownership as against body corporate. The more we discuss this, the more points come up. I think it would be a sensible idea to accept Senator Alston's suggestion that we defer on this and move on to the next matter.
