Senator CRANE (9.13 p.m.) —Senator Evans in his address accused us of filibustering on the IR bill. He should go right now and talk to Senator McMullan. We cooperated with him, we did not even touch 70 per cent of the clauses, and we agreed to the program. I am glad that Senator Burns has come back into this place. I want to know why the government is operating this place in total contravention of its own IR legislation, which it passed last week with the help of those ratbags down the other end of this place. I want to know the answer to that. Senator Burns sat there and screamed across this chamber at us last week.

Senator Burns —I never did.

Senator CRANE —Senator Burns did—he screamed and screamed and screamed; he never stopped—and Senator Murphy and Senator Carr were alongside him. Now Senator Burns has come in here and supported the greatest abuse. He ought to be ashamed of himself. When Senator Evans replies to us, he should tell us why he is operating this chamber in contravention of the government's own bill.
