Senator CROWLEY (Minister for Family Services and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women) (5.23 p.m.) —It is certainly not my intention to mislead this place. I do not believe I said `migration regulations act' or `migration amendment act'; I believe I read `migration regulations 1993', which is the document that has been given to me and which has a definition that reads, in terms of applicants seeking to migrate to this country:

. . . an applicant has a relationship with a person—

It does not specify the gender of that person. I am certainly happy to provide a copy of this to Senator Harradine. If I alluded to the act that was not my intention. I would apologise to the Senate if that was the case. I would be surprised if I did, because I was reading from the document in my hand, which refers to `migration regulations 1993'.  It was because of the matters raised by Senator Harradine that I sought from parliamentary counsel any examples that suggested that it was not the first time that there had been a reference of this sort in legislation. The advice given to me was to refer to these regulations.

Senator Harradine —What is the regulation number?

Senator CROWLEY —Part 305, class 305, `interdependency temporary visa and entry permit'. What I certainly can do is provide a copy of this for Senator Harradine as soon as possible.

Senator Harradine —I would like to have it now.

Senator CROWLEY —Okay.
