Senator REID —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)at a referendum held in 1991, the people of the ACT voted to introduce the Hare-Clark electoral system, and

    (ii)the ACT Labor Government intends to enact electoral legislation which includes above-the-line voting, in defiance of the referendum result;

  (b)condemns the Follett Labor Government for its disgraceful and dishonourable action on this matter; and

  (c)calls on:

    (i)the ACT Government to implement the Hare-Clark system with the Robson rotation without an above-the-line voting option as a matter of urgency, and

    (ii)the Federal Government to examine legislation passed by this Parliament with a view to determining what steps the Parliament takes to ensure the wishes of the people of the ACT are implemented.
