Senator SHERRY (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy) (8.30 p.m.) —The approach of the government in the bill does allow for peaceful picketing. Senator Crane may or may not agree with the action of picketing, but we do provide for peaceful picketing. That is a philosophical approach to industrial relations that he and I will just have to disagree on.

We define peaceful picketing—I think in a very reasoned way—to be obtaining information. The other provisions in proposed subparagraph (a) clearly define what is not acceptable in the context of peaceful picketing in language that I believe is commonly understood. It will be found so by the courts, should there be recourse to them, should people engage in that type of behaviour, as outlined in proposed subparagraph (b).
