Senator CRANE (8.11 p.m.) —Did I hear the minister say—and maybe I did not because I was battling to follow the answer—that the commission could not amend an agreement because of representations made by a trade union?


Senator Faulkner —The commission cannot amend an agreement.


Senator CRANE —If that is the case, it really begs the question: why would the trade unions have the right to be heard? If the commission cannot amend an agreement, why would the trade unions have the right to be heard? It does not make sense to me; it is illogical. Can the minister address that particular aspect? Surely there is somebody there who knows the answer to that question.
