Senator PARER (9.07 p.m.) —I would like to follow up what Senator Harradine said. Maybe the minister could give us a response on this matter. There was a case that went on in Mount Isa for some years. Mr Temporary Chairman, you may remember that from your industrial days. The company was actually sued because it would not put women in an area where there was a very high lead concentration. It knew, as everyone else knew, that it was highly dangerous for females who could potentially become pregnant to work in such an area as their children could be affected. I think it is only in the last three weeks that a decision has been made that enables the company not to employ women in that area of the mine. I would be most concerned if an unintended consequence of an amendment like this overturned that decision.
