Senator COULTER —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)notes that:

    (i)a new push by the Australian Democrats for construction of the Alice Springs to Darwin rail link has won widespread support in the Northern Territory and South Australia,

    (ii)until all major centres of population are connected by rail it is impossible to make the major and necessary energy saving move of heavy transport from road to rail, and

    (iii)the rail link will create much needed jobs, and will provide a major boost to the South Australian economy; and

  (b)calls on the Government to make a firm commitment to begin construction of the Alice Springs to Darwin rail link.
