(Question Nos. 740 & 746)

Senator Knowles asked the Minister representing the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Services and the Minister for Health, upon notice, on 2 November 1993:

With reference to the 1992-93 financial year:

  (1) How many training courses were conducted for departmental staff.

  (2) Where were the training courses held.

  (3) What expenses were incurred on: (a) airfares; (b) other travel; (c) accommodation; (d) conference facilities; and (e) any other associated expenses.

  (4) What was the duration of each course (number of days).

  (5) How many staff attended each course.

Senator Richardson —The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Services and I have provided the following answer to the honourable senator's questions:

(1)-(5) The question seeks very detailed information on the training activities of the Department, and is unclear in some of its requirements. To answer the question would involve a very significant expenditure of resources which cannot be justified.

There is extensive information on the Department's human resource development activities contained in Annual Reports and in the report of the annual HRD Survey conducted by the Public Service Commission.
