Senator Knowles asked the Minister for Health, upon notice, on 7 October 1993:

  (1) What government publications and general community interest publications are available in foreign languages.

  (2) What languages do they cover.

  (3) What are the current distribution processes for ensuring that this material reaches these particular ethnic communities.

Publication

Summary Guide to Medicare', `Your Guide to Hospital Medicare', `Ask Your GP'.

Languages available

Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Khmer, Laotian, Macedonian, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese.

Distribution Process

Distribution through Medicare offices, Ethnic Community Council member organisations, Migrant Resource Centres, Telephone Interpreter Services, ethnic community welfare organisations, community health centres, hospitals and medical practitioners. Copies also available from the 008 Medicare Information Line. A translated version of `Ask your GP' appeared as a supplement in the main newspaper for each language group.
