To the Honourable the President and Members of the Senate in Parliament assembled.

The Commonwealth Threatened Species Bill recognises that Australia has the worst extinction record of native mammals of any country on Earth in recent history and that species extinctions are still occurring at an alarming rate.

Your Petitioners ask that the Senate should support Commonwealth Threatened Species legislation which uses the full powers given to it by the Australian Constitution and which provides the necessary financial resources to halt the loss of species on this, the oldest continent on earth.
