Senator IAN MACDONALD (3.40 p.m.) —As a member of the Joint Committee on the National Capital, I wish to support Senator Reid's comments. I want to say the obvious, of course, that Canberra really is the national capital, as well as the home of many Canberrans. In so far as it is the national capital, it is pleasing, I think, to recognise and note that this parliament, comprised of representatives from all over Australia, has an interest in things that happen in the national capital, particularly in the national capital aspects. I am pleased to have been a member of the committee making the recommendations to which the government is responding today.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.
