Senator IAN MACDONALD —Under standing order 190, may I explain some material part of my speech which has been misunderstood?

The PRESIDENT —Yes, you have the right to do that.

Senator IAN MACDONALD —Senator Collins, as is his wont, misinterpreted what I said in raising this matter, which he says is sub judice. If it is sub judice, why did his department refer to it in written answers in the estimates committee additional information?

The PRESIDENT —Order! I did not say the matter was sub judice; I said it was outside sub judice, but I cautioned against debating issues that were coming up in a coronial inquiry.

Senator IAN MACDONALD —Could I make myself clear, Mr President? I was not suggesting you were saying it; I was suggesting Senator Collins was.

The PRESIDENT —I was just telling the chamber what I thought the situation was.
