Senator KERNOT (Leader of the Australian Democrats) (11.50 a.m.) —This is one of those incredibly difficult situations where there are two competing principles which both have merit. I am really at a loss to know what is the best way to go. We are considering the withdrawal of this amendment. Perhaps it is possible for us to talk to the ISC again about giving it the power to protect trustee decisions in clear-cut cases. Unfortunately, Senator Watson is occupied at the moment and cannot hear what I am saying about his amendment. Perhaps I will finish my remarks when he returns.
