Senator Calvert asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 18 October 1993:

  (1) Why was it necessary to purchase sun lounges, at a cost of $4 944, for the Royal Australian Air Force Facilities Flight during May 1993.

  (2) How many sun lounges were purchased for this amount.

  (3) To how many bases were they distributed.


Senator Robert Ray —The answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) To provide personnel from the Royal Australian Air Force Base Darwin and visiting military forces, who use the base swimming pool for fitness training and recreation, with facilities similar to those found in the wider community.

  (2) Twenty-four.

  (3) One.
