(Question No. 441)


Senator Patterson asked the Minister for the Arts and Administrative Services, upon notice, on 20 July 1993:

  (1) Of the $4 million allocated by the Government to promote children's media, how much funding will be given to the Australian Children's Television Foundation during the 1993-94 financial year.

  (2) How much money will be given to support a national children's film and television festival in the Asia-Pacific region during the 1993-94 financial year.

  (3) What measures has the Government taken to support such a national children's film and television festival in the Asia-Pacific region.


Senator McMullan —I have been advised that the answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) $750,000

  (2) Up to $225,000 is available to meet the costs of planning and implementing the proposed festival and associated activities.

  (3) The Government has initiated a process of consultation with relevant individuals and organisations as a first step towards holding the festival.
