Senator SHORT —by leave—I thank the government for that response. I look forward to the more detailed information being provided by the time set out in the motion, which is 6.30 p.m. tomorrow evening. I make the point that this information would not have been provided had the opposition not taken this action through moving this motion. I think it is a very important reflection of the rightful and proper role that this Senate can play in the scrutiny of legislation and government proposals to hold this government accountable and responsible for its proposals and its actions. We will defer further consideration of that until after we have seen the additional information. In the meantime, I move:

That there be laid on the table of the Senate, on or before 6.30 p.m. on 19 August 1993, by the Leader of the Government in the Senate (Senator Gareth Evans) a statement of the Government's forward estimates projections of revenue for each of the fiscal years 1994-95 to 1996-97, including the assumptions upon which they are based, to assist Senators in their consideration of the Budget appropriation bills and related Budget proposals.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.
