(Question No. 201)

Senator Alston asked the Minister for the Arts and Administrative Services, upon notice, on 18 May 1993:

  (1) What is the total amount paid by the department to AGB Australia to conduct and present its 1991 Omnibus Survey which covered the knowledge of, and attitudes towards, the various national symbols of Australia.

  (2) On whose request was the survey undertaken.

  (3) With reference to other surveys undertaken by the department or any other body within the portfolio since June 1990 on attitudes toward and recognition of the Australian national flag, and/or Australia's national colours, and/or Australia's national flower, and/or Australia's Coat of Arms, for each such surveys: (a) what was the nature of the survey; (b) what was its total cost; (c) who undertook the survey; (d) at whose request was the survey undertaken; and (e) when did the survey take place.

Senator McMullan —I have been advised that the answer to the honourable senator's question is as follows:

  (1) $6,440.

  (2) At the request of the then Department of Administrative Services.

  (3) No other surveys on these subjects have been undertaken by the portfolio since June 1990.
