(Question No. 163)


Senator Calvert asked the Minister representing the Minister for Employment, Education and Training, upon notice, on 18 May 1993:

  (1) For each department or agency, what was the name and total cost, including staff time, printing, distribution, et cetera, of annual reports produced for the financial years: (a) 1990-91; (b) 1991-92;(c) 1992-93.

  (2) When were the annual reports listed in (1) tabled in the Parliament.


Senator Robert Ray —The Minister for Employment, Education and Training has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

  (1) (a) The department's annual report for 1990-91 was named `Department of Employment, Education and Training Annual Report 1990-91'. The published cost of the report was $150,000. This included annual report team staff costs, printing and distribution, but not indirect costs of Divisional and State contributions.

  (b) The department's annual report for 1991-92 was named `Department of Employment, Education and Training Annual Report 1991-92'. The published cost of the report was $510,000, costed according to the Department of Finance guidelines for costing government activities. This included annual report team staff costs, printing and distribution and all costs of contributions.

  (c) The name of the department's annual report for 1992-93 will be `Department of Employment, Education and Training Annual Report 1992-93'. A final cost of the report is not available at this stage, as it is still under preparation.

  (2) The tabling dates for the annual reports were as follows:

  Wednesday, 27 November, 1991 for the 1990-91 report; and

  Wednesday, 16 December, 1992 for the 1991-92 report.

  The department's annual report for 1992-93 will be tabled during 1993.
