(Question No. 55)

Senator Ian Macdonald asked the Minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, upon notice, on 5 May 1993:

With reference to the television documentary entitled Shoalwater up for Grabs, shown by Channel 7 on 29 November 1992, is it correct that the Aboriginal people shown in the documentary are not from the Shoalwater Bay area and are not traditional owners.

Senator Collins —The Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs has provided the following response to the honourable senator's question:

The Senator's question raises the question of whether certain Aboriginal people shown in a television documentary are traditional owners for the Shoalwater Bay area.

I am unable to form an opinion on the question the Senator has raised upon the limited information available to me.

I suggest that the Senator take this matter up with the makers of the television documentary.
