Senator BROWNHILL (Deputy Leader of the National Party of Australia) —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

    (a)notes that:

(i)a Prices Surveillance Authority draft report has recommended the doubling of peak period landing charges for commuter and regional airlines operating out of Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport,

(ii)in addition to this alarming suggestion they have further proposed an extension of the peak period monitoring period, and

(iii)introduction of either of these suggestions would lead to further financial crisis for our struggling commuter airlines and would be yet another impost on people living outside metropolitan Australia; and

(b)calls on the Minister for Transport and Communications (Senator Collins) to reject the final report if it contains these or any similar recommendations that will disadvantage rural Australians.
