Senator MICHAEL BAUME —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

    (a)notes with dismay the attempted sabotage of Sydney's bid for the 2000 Olympic Games by the foreign-controlled Sydney Morning Herald's incredible `beat-up' into a major front page news item of unsustainable suggestions of impropriety against a New South Wales Minister (Mr Baird) over the appointment of an International Olympic Committee delegate's son-in-law to a junior engineering job in the State Rail Authority; and

    (b)calls on the Sydney Morning Herald to follow the lead of other media outlets in providing at least a fair and balanced cover of Sydney's bid rather than setting out to undermine it.
