Senator KERNOT (Leader of the Australian Democrats) —I offer congratulations to Senator Crichton-Browne on behalf of the Australian Democrats. I have to tell him that we have scanned the database in vain—no 100 pages of Hansard this time—to give us a reason for rejecting convention. It is our hope that he will display the impartiality, tempered with a sense of humour, that is so necessary in the job and which I think Senator Colston displayed so ably. I want to tell Senator Crichton-Browne that, in fact, our vote of support for him is just a way of keeping him from the `I didn't really mean to speak, but . . .' list, which happens so regularly in the evenings in this place. Perhaps the Senate will gain from this. We wish Senator Crichton-Browne well and we will be watching him with interest.
