Senator FAULKNER (Manager of Government Business in the Senate) —Mr Deputy President, I present the Government's interim response to the report of the Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training on the implications of sustained high levels of unemployment amongst young people. I seek leave to incorporate the document in Hansard and to move a motion in relation to the document.

  Leave granted.

  The document read as follows

Minister for Employment, Education and Training

Parliament House, Canberra, ACT 2600

24 May 1993

Senator the Hon. T G Aulich

Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on

Employment, Education and Training

Parliament House

ACT 2600

Dear Senator Aulich

Preparation of the Government's response to `Wanted: Our Future', your committee's report into the implications of sustained high levels of unemployment among young people (15-24 years old), was postponed during the recent federal election.

While it is my intention to have the Government's response tabled by the end of May, that may prove to be impossible. In the event that the response is delayed beyond May, I will convey the response to the Chair of the Committee before the Budget session of Parliament, with tabling of the response to follow.

Yours sincerely

Kim C. Beazley

Senator FAULKNER —I move:

That the Senate take note of the document.

Debate (on motion by Senator Reid) adjourned.
