Senator KNOWLES (12.23 p.m.) —I have another couple of questions. Just how much money has the department so far allocated to legal assistance for the illegal entrants who are appealing the decisions of the department since November 1989? What are the exact costs to date associated with litigation outside the refugee process? How many illegal immigrants are being serviced by the particular administrative expenses associated with them? Just how many people are involved in the management and administration of the detainees—those who are in charge of the boat people?

Senator Bolkus —Does that include those who have to prepare answers to Senate questions on those issues? We will take them on board.

The CHAIRMAN —That concludes the consideration of the estimates for Committee F. I put the question: That the report of Estimates Committee F be agreed to.

  Question resolved in the affirmative.

REPORT OF ESTIMATES COMMITTEE E

  Consideration resumed.

The CHAIRMAN —The item from Estimates Committee E that was postponed was subprogram 2.6, communication selection team.
