Senator SHERRY (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Primary Industries and Energy) (11.34 a.m.) —Yes, I can provide the honourable senator with some further details. The $11 million was primarily the result of deferrals in two major projects. Those two major projects were the refurbishment of a lower section of the Gore Hill tower in Sydney, for a deferral of $5.35 million, and the construction of a new transmission facility at Mount Wellington, Hobart, for a deferral of $4.5 million. To allow the refurbishment of Gore Hill to proceed, the NTA must arrange to relocate the transmission facilities for SBS TV to another site. The NTA has been negotiating a sharing agreement with the commercial owners of the Seven/Ten tower at Artarmon, Sydney, where it is intended to place this service.

The NTA has also been involved in complicated negotiations with the Hobart City Council regarding the approval to construct a new tower on Mount Wellington, at $4.5 million, to replace the existing tower, which has reached the end of its viable life. Due to the need to dedicate resources to establishing new activities that the NTA is now required to undertake, particularly the tendering of major projects, planning for several smaller projects has also been delayed, resulting in the need for deferred additional expenditure of $1.15 million. All of the funding for the projects deferred from 1992-93 will be spent on these projects in 1993-94.
