Senator ARCHER —My question is directed to the Minister for Transport and Communications. What explanation will the Minister give for there being two increases, each of between five and 10 per cent, on Bass Strait sea freight within a period of six months?

Senator COLLINS —I have actually answered this question twice before. But what I will do—and Senator Archer might find this very instructive reading—is provide the honourable senator with the actual statistics on the freight rates across Bass Strait over the past 10 years. What Senator Archer will see is that they have progressively fallen in real terms.
