Senator IAN MACDONALD —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

(a)notes the assurance made by the Minister for Family Services (Senator Crowley) on behalf of the Minister for Local Government (Mr Howe), during the committee of the whole debate on Appropriation Bill (No. 5) 1992-93 on 25 May 1993, that the Government will fully cover beyond 30 June 1993, the cost of rate discounts given by councils as part of the Government's pre-election pledge to extend fringe benefits to all pensioners; and

(b)welcomes the assurance made by Senator Crowley which dispels the confusion which local governments have felt, up until 25 May 1993, because they had no guarantee of compensation from the Government for the rate discounts beyond June 1993.
