Senator CROWLEY (Minister for Family Services and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women) (8.17 p.m.) —I have grave doubts about Senator Macdonald's last comment about assuring him that there is money in these appropriations for something or other. I thought the whole point of being here was to debate what was clearly designated for these appropriations. If Senator Macdonald has that wrong, I take his abuse across this chamber as nothing more than some childish display.

Most of these comments do nothing but bring some discredit to the extraordinary generosity of the people of Australia and also on those voluntary agencies who have been very pleased to cooperate with government in this matter, appreciating just how they can assist people in need. I do not believe that the emergency relief program or the work of the voluntary agencies is in any way edified by those last contributions.
