Senator PATTERSON (6.05 p.m.) —I presume that unless they specifically asked, they would only have known when they got the guidelines. The Prime Minister (Mr Keating) had made a statement on the Sunday program indicating that it was moneys collected by these major organisations during their Christmas appeals. In his two press releases on 6 December and 11 December he said the Government would match money raised during the Christmas appeals. The press release of 11 December detailed the organisations that would be eligible, but there was nothing about the fact that it was money spent over a specified time. What action did the Government take to inform the donors to these major organisations that the situation was not as it had been expressed in the Prime Minister's press releases or in his interview with Laurie Oakes on 6 December?
