Senator CHAMARETTE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

  That the Senate—

  (a)supports the comments made on 24 May 1993 by the Anglican Archbishop of Adelaide (Ian George) that the message coming from Australia's refugee policy depicted a selfish society that is giving relentlessly recurring signals of our selfishness and racial discrimination;

  (b)notes the indication by the Minister for Immigration and Ethnic Affairs (Senator Bolkus) that the Government may be willing to increase the number of refugees by 1 000 people in the financial year 1993-94; and

  (c)calls:

    (i)for the immediate release of all the boat people held in custody around Australia, and

    (ii)on the Government to show the Asian region that Australia is committed to helping to resolve regional problems in relation to humane and just processes for asylum seekers.
