Senator ALSTON (Deputy Leader of the Opposition) (10.21 p.m.) —I will say very briefly that the Opposition takes the view that this is simply monitoring for the sake of monitoring. It will no doubt ensure that even more bureaucrats are paid higher salaries. At the end of the day, it is quite unnecessary. As I had understood it, the Government was scrupulously concerned to ensure that there were not cross-media rules in relation to MDS licences. We are now apparently about to go through yet another process of scrutiny for the sake of scrutiny. I simply put it on the record that we are not supporters of that sort of regulation for regulation's sake.
