Senator FAULKNER (Manager of Government Business in the Senate) (9.06 p.m.) —The Government will accept the amendment moved by Senator Hill. I do not know whose idea it was—that of the Democrats or the Opposition; I only know that it was not originally my idea, even though it is encompassed within the motion that I moved. I suppose it is a little inconsistent in the sense that a speaker has five minutes to respond to an answer given in Question Time and a Minister is limited to four minutes on his or her original answer and one minute on a supplementary, but I think that four or five minutes does give any honourable senator ample opportunity to develop a case. It also gives the opportunity for a minimum of six honourable senators to speak to a motion moved to take note of an answer to a question during Question Time. I commend the new sessional order to the Senate.
