Senator COULTER (Leader of the Australian Democrats) (11.49 p.m.) —I think the point is fairly simple. If there is a case—and I understand there is—where people have been detained unlawfully, and if those people are still in detention and the cost of keeping them in detention is only one dollar a day, is it the intention of the Government, if the High Court rules that their detention is illegal, to continue to keep them in detention, because it is very cheap for the Government to do so? Or will the Government release them? Does cost become a factor in the thinking of the Government as to whether it will adhere to the decision of the High Court or not?
